This early work by Francis Younghusband was originally published in 1911 and we are now republishing it with a brand new introductory biography. 'Kashmir' is a work on the geography and people of the Indian subcontinent. Francis Younghusband was born in 1863 at Munree, British India, the son of Major-General John W. Younghusband and Clara Jane Shaw. Younghusband attended Clifton College, Bristol, before entering the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1881. After his time at the Academy he was commissioned as a Subaltern in the 1st King's Dragoon Guards where he began his military career. He rose through the ranks and in 1902, due to fears of Russian expansion, the now Major Younghusband, was promoted to the position of British Commisioner to Tibet, a post he held until 1904. Younghusband married Helen Augusta Magniac, with whom he had two children, a son who died in infancy and a daughter, Eileen Younghusband. Their daughter went on to become a prominent social worker.

Kashmir eBook Francis Younghusband Reviews
I bought the book on Kashmir written by Younghuband and that is the book I wanted. The only confusion that was created by advertising two books by the same author on Kashmir with same year of publishing with two different prices. There was just one photo of the cover of the book given for both these books in the advertisement. But the book I got had a totally different cover than advertised. It does not look like the original binding and is an abandoned copy from some library in Spokane. I had expected a book with the cover shown on the photo in the advertisement and I got some thing else.I haven't sent it back because I just don't want any arguments. That is all I have to say. If I will be buying any more stuff from , I will have to think about it seriously first.
A good read combining elements of Raj Era from a British officer's perspective (who went on playing a bigger role later on in Tibet which is another story altogether), the beautiful vale of Kashmir, appreciation of wild life (though there are tales about hunting excursions); cultural intricacies of the region etc.
Extremely happy to have this book written by an intrepid adventurer.
Sir Francis takes you, flower by flower through the valley of Kashmir,, back when it was pristine. The lovely paintings don't apear in the version, so I bought the paperback version as well. It was worth it.
